Joy And Sadness | December 12, 2015

December 12, 2015

Joy and sadness work side by side.
Joy might be everyone's favorite but sadness is the necessary catalyst that gives joy all her sparkles.
Sadness goes under appreciated and under valued but true Joy understands sadness' place.
Tears soften our hearts and we need supple hearts in order to receive love and in order to give love away.
Cracks in our soul allow the light in.
If we did not grieve or mourn the loss of a loved one or injustice or poverty or abuse or illness then our hearts would be stone and the deeper our love the deeper our loss, but also the deeper our joy.
Joy and sadness work side by side; sometimes they skip through the flower fields holding hands and sometimes they curl up in a ball on the floor.
No matter what, they are dance partners for life and their existence feeds each other.

This morning a large group of supple hearts gathered at 6:00am outside of Liam Hearne's hospital window and serenaded him with love songs. He couldn't hear us but we could hear us and his suffering gave us a reason to sing. His being proclaims the greatness of the Lord and we rejoiced in God our Savior. A child leaped from deep within us as we reached for the truth and held onto one another in community. As we celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe on this day, there were roses blooming in the snow and they were singing when the Saints go marching in. Joy and sorrow interlock their fingers tightly for without one the other would not exist and I praise God for both.

Side note: This is my 100th blog post!!
