When Jesus saw that the crowd following them was larger than usual, he decided to begin a series of teachings known as the Sermon On The Mount. He begins with a litany of blessings (Beatitudes) that are necessary for us to be happy. These virtues and spiritual behaviors are the model for living a faithful life here on earth and the gateway to heaven. As we walk this faith journey together it is important to stop and give thanks for the virtues, the relationships, and the experiences that have been blessings (some in distressing disguise) in our lives. All these things are signs on the road, navigational directions pointing us home. Home is that place where we can rest our head against the heart of our Beloved and gentle Father and just be held in love. Blessed are you who are poor in spirit, who mourn, who are meek, who hunger and thirst for righteousness, who are merciful, who are clean of heart, who are peacemakers, who are persecuted and insulted, and blessed are you who will count all these blessings today and everyday. Rejoice and be glad because the Kingdom of Heaven is waiting for you. And it is well with my soul.

In those days a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
The news about them reached the ears of the Church in Jerusalem,
and they sent Barnabas to go to Antioch.
When he arrived and saw the grace of God,
he rejoiced and encouraged them all
to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart,
for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and faith.
And a large number of people was added to the Lord.
Then he went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch.
For a whole year they met with the Church
and taught a large number of people,
and it was in Antioch that the disciples
were first called Christians.
Now there were in the Church at Antioch prophets and teachers:
Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger,
Lucius of Cyrene,
Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,
"Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul
for the work to which I have called them."
Then, completing their fasting and prayer,
they laid hands on them and sent them off.

for they will be satisfied.
